"...your nervous system was not designed to take in every piece of bad news happening to every human across the globe every minute of the day." Oh yes... this. It seems like the fire hose of bad news is happening everywhere to everyone and all at once. I feel like I am using the "red phone" to utter a prayer of urgency all the time and wonder if any of those pleas actually work or if it even helps. I think your advice to "step away and drink some water" might be the best answer because staying hydrated is something. Right?
It's been my own response to these incessant 'warnings' and 'red light announcements' to remember that in media production it's true: "If it bleeds, it leads". Those intros, those headlines, all are part of the 'bleeding' to get y/our attention and to use fear to grab out minds. This is not to say that I should ignore the latest and worst of all of donnie's gang of evil acts, but rather to step back, consider the actual missive, and then do whatever it is that is reasonable for myself and my family. And, yes, I do follow some of the more liberal minds who ask for me to participate in their pre-written letters to Congress. It's short time, all online, and having worked in (small state) government, I can say that the number of letters, calls and online contacts does matter to the decision makers. And, it's fun to participate in the 'No Kings' rallies with other like-minded souls who are acting where actions matter most.
For sure - dehydration fogs the mind - not to mention taking the glow from our complexion- all this can open the door for that terrible visit by the Depression Demon who only wants to distract us with lies. Take a break and hydrate and hug a friend / pet / yourself and just lay in the grass and let the world turn and in this stillness say a prayer - so sorry for those living in concrete jungles with no grass - but we are never alone as God is everywhere but we can’t always see through our anxiety and tears - sort of the get over it phrase in Psalms 46:10 10 “That’s enough! Now know that I am God!
I am exalted among all nations; I am exalted throughout the world!”
A million thank yous for this chart. I felt a gut punch watching a video of a right wing media personality spewing the most vile, racist words without a hint of shame. I felt like collapsing. But this chart helps. I can't change this vile woman, but I can do something to help someone else.
I spent 30 minutes discussing your conversation with Kelly with a super MAGA friend. It helped her to feel less anxious. In order to be friends, we avoid political discussion but she often can’t help herself. It gave us something positive to talk about. Thanks to you and Kelly!
My mother was a deeply spiritual person. She believed that things that occurred in her life were often “providential”; they were in her life by divine providence. I believe you and your work are that in my life and the lives of others.
Love this. And your discussion about music with Kelly, those who can create it and listening to live music when possible makes me smile inside and out.
Love it! I can “know” this manipulation is at work, even be able to name it abstractly but once I’ve been pulled into the trance state, it’s hard to break free. Having this on paper, a touchstone, can be a tool for breaking out. Thank you so much!
This is great! I especially love the kindness to yourself that is in it. I run a similar list in my head, but it doesn't usually contain kindness so much as abbreviated directions (eg, breathe, rest, let go). I think I'll write it out and include the caring self-talk. BTW, I'm glad that there's a recording of the conversation that I can listen to.this weekend. I'd had it on my calendar for Wednesday, but a work requirement intervened.
My husband has a Pearls Before Daily Calendar, and yesterday’s tear-off reminded me so much of your stress flow chart. I was going to post a picture of it but don’t see how here. Anyway, he really appreciated the flow chart so I’m just mostly stopping by to say a big THANKS!
I saw online that you were at Richard's ordination and consecration. I wish I could have been there, but my mobility issues prevented that. Sorry I missed you.

I, too, send those letters. It is never a bad thing to make your voice heard.

Now I need to go listen to your conversation with Kelly. Thanks for being a light in my world. “What is mine to care about?”

Thank you—my nervous system isn’t built….so helpful!!
i need first aid for my finger, i’ve shared so many times. you must have x-ray vision like superman to see so clearly into the hearts n souls.

So good! Go out and take a walk😊
I thought the flow chart was funny. My flow chart is “are you on social media?” “No.” “Go about your day.”

this made me laugh because i needed it so much

Have a lovely day!
Spectacular. Saving for later (probably today) when I need this reminder.
