All The Things

Talking with an artist about paradox, healing, community, singing, art, suffering, and pets named for long dead artists

My Guest:

Scott Erickson is an author, artist and performance speaker creating a visual vocabulary for the spiritual journey. I love his art so much. Here’s his Substack!

Lowering the Bar

More than once in my life, I’ve had a new pastor or seminarian come up to me at a public appearance and say something well-meaning but awkwardly worded like: “I always assumed I wasn’t good enough to go to seminary and be a pastor….but then I read your memoirs!”

That’s me. Lowering the bar for ministry since 2006.

And the beat goes on.

Those of you who tuned in live got to see:

  • Me start the video as scheduled but without my guest (who got the time wrong and had to literally run back home).

  • Me feel delighted that I am not the only person who does this!

  • Me trying to vamp: a couple apologies … a show-and-tell … a quick story

  • Scott arriving but me not being able to hear him

  • Scott signing off to try and figure out what the “tech difficulty” was

  • You guys messaging me: “We can hear him!”

  • Me realizing the real problem was me (story of my life) - my sound was turned down.

  • Us trying and recover from all of that (here’s when the video above starts)

  • Me forgetting that my computer wasn’t on do not disturb and a loud notification chime interrupting my guest

  • Us getting interrupted by a cat while I was trying to talk about GOD

For everyone out there who can’t seem to reliably get times right, turn your ringers off when you’re supposed to, manage your pets, and know when your sound is turned down or not….

You’re welcome. Scott and I are happy to have been of service.

Here’s our conversation!

Jesus' Last Words

A year ago, my friend Clare Hamoor and I led holy week services inside a men’s prison in Canyon City, Colorado. Our Good Friday service was simple; we read the passion, and having posted the images from Scott Erickson’s Last Words of Jesus on the walls of the prison chapel, we then invited the…

A Thank You and a Note about my next surgery

Thanks everyone for tuning into my little idea for how to offer some encouragement and wisdom from my friends during a time when:

a) I need it

b) Writing feels especially difficult and I’m not able to offer as much to the world right now as I’d like.

I’m deeply moved that you are all still here during this subdued season of my life. Just a head’s up: I’m taking Wednesday Aug 12 off as I have another breast reconstruction surgery Aug 10th.

#fuckcancer

In it with you. As I know you are with me,

Nadia
