I am struggling as well. How come people do not see evil when it is right in front of their eyes? How could this happen?

They've become desensitized. And for the life of me, I don't know how anyone can fix that.

I don't know that anyone can fix that either. But a small part of me thinks that they felt like they were given "permission" to be hateful, to bully and to say mean things....

I think you're exactly right, Marcy. Many people walk around with ugly, hateful, racist, nativist thoughts but weren't quite bold enough to actually speak/act on them. He definitely emboldened them.
