I think you're exactly right, Marcy. Many people walk around with ugly, hateful, racist, nativist thoughts but weren't quite bold enough to actually speak/act on them. He definitely emboldened them.
I am struggling as well. How come people do not see evil when it is right in front of their eyes? How could this happen?
