Wonderful essay, Sarah. Thank you. I love that image of the crumbs and the tiniest things; that particularity makes love possible at any time, anywhere.
I’ve found a new spirit guide! I’ve seen this book and I’ve been poking in and out of her Substack for a year now. But I wasn’t hooked. And then I read this:
“Love this moment of particular grace, not in spite of all the grief and loss surrounding us but because of it. Love this because now you know that Frederick Buechner was right: this is the world, beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don’t be afraid.”
I just attended my first Forest Church session with complete strangers in a completely new community and I was lead back to the joy of sharing my Spirit.
Some time ago one of my favorite podcasters (one who had quite a following at the time) was asked who he wished he was more like (or something like that...). His answer was quick. As I recall he said something to the effect of, "I didn't even have to think about this one. It's Sarah Bessey. She's the nicest human I've ever met."
She’s younger than me, and I’m growing to appreciate her work. But the work of Nadia and Diana Butler Bass have resonated with my journey. But I’m refreshed by Sarah’ s work!
Thank you first of all for the largess of your heart! Thank you for reminding us of the myriad ways we are loved, can bring love, can find love , and can baptize our lives and world with love.
Thank you for the reminder of the joys and beauty the surrounds us (at least here). Just this morning I saw my first painted bunting on our feeder but was so excited that with my phone in my hand, I failed to get a photo. I thanked God in my prayers tonight for bringing that beautiful bird to my feeder.
Am I the only (lonely) one feeling like I don't need another reminder that Nadia is on her HONEYMOON? I am happy she has found love. AND, come on, friend, we aren't twenty-two anymore.
Now instead of recapping each day by my highs and lows, I will ask myself, how have I loved today?
That’s perfect!!
And now we have YOU, in particular, to thank for this marvelous insight into the nature and purpose of love. And now, I must go to feed His sheep...
Beautiful things are happening and terrible things are happening, both are true. Don’t be afraid.
Thank you for this truth and reminder. It is in the fearlessness that we find the ability to love!
I start my day with some kind of centering reading & contemplation, and today it was with your words and message of love. Thank you!
Amen 🙏
Thank you Sarah! 🥰
