I am so excited for this! I have been really wanting a community to help me and support me while I am trying to put spirituality back together. Churches are too hard and Facebook groups are...Facebook groups.
Ok, so I did the survey and then this morning, I thought of something else but I’m not sure it was in the original survey so I’m throwing it out here and if it is, sorry, but: Bible study. Like “The Idiots Guide to The Bible” type thing, and the reason? I’ve decided to spend my 40 days during Lent reading The Bible and I finished Matthew 25:14-30 and damn, can I use some discussion on it because the master totally pisses me off and I need help taking that one apart. Lol. I’m trying to look at it from a few different angles and looking stuff up on it but I’d personally like to sit and chat and get other people’s perspectives on some of the stuff I’m finally reading (because, growing up Byzantine Catholic, we never really read The Bible, to be honest).
I would love to do a bible study. I grew up in a tradition that took a very literal view of the Bible which has lead to me having some serious hang-ups about the Bible. I'd love to have some open conversations to work through some things and find meaning in the stories again.
I love this idea. I would also like to discuss an option to provide support to those who have been physically or emotionally abused by churches. It is a topic I am focused on in seminary.
I'd love to have Theresa Pasquale on to talk about her work. I also try and be clear about certain boundaries though - meaning that I am not a trauma counselor and there are certain painful things in people's lives that deserve to be address and cared for with a very particular type of expertise and skill.
I though that was the intent of the whole group but you are right their are folks who are hurting more from their emotional and physical scars that should have a space for extra support :)
Nadia--Took the survey when you first posted on the Chapel idea. A couple of additional topics/niches/side altar possibilities: (1) Spiritual strength in a time of climate/Creation crisis, (2) Survival in a multiverse of spiritual challenges. These are the things I think about and would love to hear how others cope and keep from withdrawing into a little spiritual hole (like I tend to do).
This is so lovely. Thank you for your ministry, Nadia. I literally sat down at my computer to "do church" this morning and had to stop. Listening to old recordings of my congregation signing and canned sermons is not helpful right now. It only reflects back to me all that we've lost. You are ministering to me and right now, I could really use a place to practice my religion (other than "out in the world," which I know is the point).
Has The Chapel come into being yet? I’m relatively new to The Corners and just now ran across this. I’m too late for the survey but definitely am interested. Is it up and going but I just can’t find it, or is it still in formation? Thanks!
I would love this. I’m really, really lacking in faith right now. I haven’t been in church since the pandemic, and have been so wrapped up in family drama that I’ve neglected every one of my church friends, and I don’t know how to start.
Re: PIPOC how about us Roman Catholic women lay ministers( paid staff). Where can we fit into to discuss our ministries? Some of us are hanging by the skin of our teeth.
It seems like there are not many people where I live (Jacksonville FL) who are on a smiliar path so it can be kind of isolating to be totally in a private practice space. I love the idea of a community that goes beyond what social media can facilitate.
Survey completed! I work in usability, information architecture, etc, and I want to ask you to keep something in mind throughout the design and build process of this: please build with accessibility in mind right from the foundation. WCAG guidelines are helpful but not comprehensive. They don't, for example, fully address things like keyboard accessibility. It's not always easy or convenient to build those considerations in, but I think it's critical that any table like this be designed to allow full access by anyone, regardless of their abilities. Thank you for working to build bigger and better tables.
Completed the survey. I wish you will have a special pricing for LMIC (low- and middile-income countries), so more people can comfortably pay and subscribe to The Chapel if they don't prefer free access.
Just FYI at the end of the survey when asked if I would like to be part of a beta group I said YES then I received am email stating I wasn’t a member of the corners ? I thought it was strange since I am - and thought you might want to know that this strange email was sent out ... I can send it or a screen shot it you would like .

I would also like to check this box, (as long as we can avoid getting preached at :)
I mentioned Bible study in my survey too so maybe this is and idea with wings!

Thank you for considering my request, and I understand the importance of the boundaries in this topic.

Survey done...is it weird that I feel nervous about the "committment"? Pushing my comfort zone into new spaces.
Same !!!!!!!!😳

Hey Retta. Welcome! The Chapel has been closed for a year now - we intended for it to be temporary - so it was a 1 year long experiment!
Thanks! I’m not crazy after all. 🤗

So excited to be part of this community!

Thank you. We are using Mighty Networks and are limited to what they offer but promise to do our best.
Survey completed. This is a great idea. I've been looking for a place to pray with others.
